There was a huge demonstration against the "Free Trade Agreement" (TLC or CAFTA-DR) with the US in Costa Rica today, and I would have loved to be there. This was the biggest demonstration in the history of our country, with an estimated 150 000-200 000 people there.
This "agreement" if you can call it like that, attacks many of the things that make Costa Rica a nice place to live, and if approved, would limit greatly our chances of economic and social success in the future.
Since you can only vote if you are in Costa Rica next Sunday, and that means I can't, I ask everyone in Costa Rica to please inform themselves and try to make a smart decision. Don't let the fear campaign being run by the government affect you.
This sites contain a lot of information: http://www.concostarica.comThis is a quick overview in english:
http://upsidedownworld.org/main/content/view/910/1/I put some of my reasons to say no to the TLC here.
And since this is a photoblog, here are some pictures of Rodrigo Mora, Steve Quiros, and me, saying NO to the TLC. We are in front of Nordbad, about 100m from my apartment. They were visiting Munich to go to the Oktoberfest. More on that later.
